Henson Park Trails

Why Improvements Are Needed

Henson Park is one of Sherwood’s most popular and well-loved parks. Every day, families, walkers, runners, and bikers use the trails to enjoy the outdoors and stay active. But the current trail system was never properly engineered. Built in phases over the years on a limited budget, the 2.4-mile path is now too narrow, overcrowded, and unsafe.

As Sherwood continues to grow, the park needs modern upgrades to keep pace with community use and ensure the safety of everyone who enjoys it.

Planned Improvements

The Reimagine Sherwood bond extension includes funding to:

  • Widen and re-engineer the trail to accommodate both walkers and bikers safely.

  • Create a trail design that is more inclusive and accessible for residents of all ages and abilities.

  • Enhance the overall functionality and experience of the park by reducing overcrowding and improving flow.

Community Benefits

These upgrades will transform Henson Park into a more inclusive, safe, and welcoming space for Sherwood families. Benefits include:

  • Safer conditions for walkers, bikers, and runners.

  • More room for families and groups to enjoy the trail together.

  • Improved opportunities for health, wellness, and recreation.

  • Strengthened appeal of Henson Park as a community destination.

Estimated Cost

The approximate cost of the Henson Park Trails improvements is $5 million.
