North Sherwood Park

A New Park in North Sherwood

The City of Sherwood owns 21 acres along Jacksonville-Cato Road in the northern part of town. This property presents a unique opportunity to create North Sherwood Park — a new destination designed to provide recreation for families, host tournaments, and drive economic growth through increased visitors, shopping, and dining.

Planned Features

The proposed North Sherwood Park would combine sports, recreation, and family amenities in one space. Plans include:

  • Six competition sand volleyball courts with shaded viewing areas to host tournaments.

  • Pickleball courts, including two covered for play during inclement weather.

  • Basketball courts, with one covered and one open.

  • A walking and biking trail encircling the park, modeled after City Hall Park.

  • Playgrounds designed with imaginative features, shaded spaces, and swings for children of all ages.

  • Two pump tracks for bike riders — one for older riders and one for young children.

  • Multiple restroom facilities and a misting station for comfort and accessibility.

  • Concession and restroom building to support events and tournaments.

  • Parking designed for both cars and buses to accommodate large gatherings.

Community Benefits

North Sherwood Park will be more than just a local park — it will be a regional attraction.

  • Sports Tourism: Tournament-ready facilities will bring athletes, families, and visitors to Sherwood.

  • Family-Friendly Amenities: Playgrounds, trails, and pump tracks create a destination for residents of all ages.

  • Economic Growth: More visitors mean more opportunities for local businesses, restaurants, and shopping centers.

  • Balanced Recreation: Combines competitive sports with family recreation in one setting.

Estimated Cost
